A Whale-y Good Photo

On a recent 4 Hour Whale & Wildlife Tour, we had two zodiacs on the water watching humpback whales near Campbell River, BC. In Sutil Channel on the east side of Quadra Island, the conditions were perfect with great lighting and glassy calm waters.

The humpbacks were slowly travelling on the surface and you could hear their blows clearly. When one of the humpbacks went for a dive, the perfect photo opportunity arose.

One of our guests, Carrie MacDonald, captured this incredible photo of the fluke perfectly framing our vessel in the background.

It’s incredible to see the sheer size of these magnificent animals in relation to the vessel positioned 100m behind. Humpback whales can reach 16m/52ft in length, and can weigh between 30-45 tons.

The Daily Hive Vancouver featured Carrie’s photos in this article.
