Which Whale Watching Tour Is Best For Me?

Campbell River is quickly becoming known as a whale watching hotspot on Vancouver Island. On top of the incredible cetaceans that call this area home, there are a plethora of marine mammals and other wildlife that can be seen on our tours. However, deciding which whale watching tour to join in can be a daunting task. You want to ensure you see the most wildlife and scenery, but perhaps you’re limited with time. Maybe you have children that will be joining and are worried about the length of the tour.

Here’s a quick guide that will help you choose between our Campbell River whale watching tours!

If you want to see whales, you have two options: our 4 Hour Whale & Wildlife Tour, or our 7 Hour Big Animal Encounter.

4 Hour Whale & Wildlife Tour:

Our most popular, family-friendly tour. If you’ve only got half the day and love marine wildlife, exhilarating high-speed zodiacs, and the wind in your hair… this is the tour for you!

  • Takes place on our fun and stable zodiac vessels
  • Fun and entertaining for adults and children (minimum age is 3 years old)
  • No bathroom onboard, but we stop for a land-based bathroom and snack break halfway through
  • Snacks & drinks included
  • Cruiser suits included

Wildlife we see:

Steller sea lions, harbour seals, bald eagles, and a wide array of colourful sea birds. There is no whale sighting guarantee on this tour, but chances are high for spotting humpback whales. Occasionally, killer whales can be seen!

Worried about the length of the tour for children? We find that most children have a blast on this tour no matter the age – the zodiacs are a thrill and the wildlife is exciting!

7 Hour Big Animal Encounter Tour

The creme-de-la-creme of whale watching tours in Campbell River. If you have the entire day and love exploring beautiful remote areas with incredible wildlife, we cannot recommend this tour enough!

  • Takes place on our covered, heated vessels
  • Perfect for photographers & videographers
  • Breathtaking scenery and tidal rapids
  • Bathroom onboard
  • Lunch, snacks, and drinks included

Wildlife we see:

WHALE GUARANTEE! We guarantee you’ll see whales on this tour. We regularly see humpback whales, killer whales, dolphins, and porpoises, Steller sea lions, harbour seals, and bald eagle. If you come at the right time of year, you might even get to see the Eagle Show. Plus, if you’re lucky, black bears, grizzly bears, and Roosevelt elk can also be found.

Because the tour is longer, we’re able to cover a broader range than our 4 Hour tour. You’ll travel deep into the Discovery Islands Archipelago and experience narrow channels and inlets, towering mountains, and remote islands. Also because you’re on the water for longer, the chances you’ll see more wildlife increase.

There’s plenty of room to move around on our covered vessels, including a large back deck to excellent viewing opportunities. If you have limited mobility, the covered vessels are easy to get on and off. Our crew are always happy to lend a hand with boarding!
